BP Basic work jacket 1485-060, mid green, 100% cotton. A practical model for workshops, warehouses, agriculture and vehicle service where workwear needs strength as well as polyester-free comfort.
Model 1485-060-74 is made from 300 gsm cotton certified to Öko-Tex Standard 100; it holds its shape, stays opaque and remains breathable through the shift.
Almost all workwear on the market is a cotton-polyester blend. It is cheaper and easier to look after. But where it is hot, where the shift runs ten hours, where there is eczema or an allergy on the skin, the difference between a blend and pure cotton stops being theoretical.
Cotton breathes better than any blend. It absorbs moisture instead of pushing it around the surface, and it does not create the clammy feeling familiar to anyone who has worn polyester in a workshop. It does not build static — fine dust and swarf do not cling to the fabric.
Weight is 300 grams per square metre. This is not lightweight shirting but a proper work cloth: it holds its shape, does not go sheer, and carries the weight of tools in the pockets.
Öko-Tex Standard 100
The certificate means the fabric has been tested for harmful substances — dyes, formaldehyde, heavy metals, pesticide residues. Testing follows requirements stricter than statutory limits. For clothing that sits against the skin eight hours a day, that is not a formality.
About sparks — honestly, with a caveat
On contact with a hot particle, cotton smoulders and burns through. Synthetics under the same conditions melt and stick to the skin, producing a worse burn. This is a physical property of the fibre, and it is why pure cotton is traditionally preferred where scale or swarf is flying.
However: this is NOT protective clothing and NOT a flame-resistant material. The garment is not certified to any protective standard and must not be used for welding, near open flame or molten metal. Those applications require certified garments — our catalogue includes a range certified to EN ISO 11611 and EN ISO 11612.
Who it suits
Manufacturing, machine shops, warehouses, agriculture, municipal services, vehicle workshops. Particularly where it gets hot and where staff complain about discomfort in blended fabrics.
Care
Cotton needs slightly more attention than a blend: it creases more and may shrink a little on first wash. Tumble drying is not recommended. In return you get comfort a blend cannot deliver.
